Process and Breathwork

Special Terms

To be activated
or in process:
When an old traumatic situation is touched upon by a current event, and the old feelings come back, often controlling the present emotions, thoughts and reactions.

Affirmation:
A positive, life enhancing thought used consciously to clear out old, limiting thoughts, so that the thought represented by the affirmation may become integrated in ones life. Example: I am the one who chooses what to think, and how to use my energy.

Archetypal affirmation:
Specific affirmations that Binnie A. Dansby associates with each of the major chakras and with negative decisions we took at birth, or early in our lives.

Being present:
Being totally awake and alert in the present moment.

Birth trauma:
The result of impressions and conclusions we formed about ourselves and the world at birth. Most of these conclusions seem to be negative, and the so-called archetypal negatives seem in our culture to be installed in our subconscious minds at birth, as a belief system. When the birth trauma is activated strong emotions, e.g. anger, sadness, separation, or fear often comes up. They come up, however, so that may be healed, by breathing through the feelings. Until the birth trauma is healed, all other experiences tend to be colored by the way birth was experienced.

The sequence conception, gestation and birth is considered a metaphor for the way we relate to the creative processes in general.

By paying attention to birthing methods, the traumatic impact of birth can to a large extend be prevented.

Connected breathing:
Breathing in a cyclic pattern, with the inhale directly following the exhale, and with awareness on the breath. If you have a multimedia computer, you may listen to a sample.

Chakras:
Energy nodes in the body. The seven major chakras, according to Eastern traditions, are along the spine: 1) base chakra, or Muladhara at the base of the spine; 2) sacral chakra, or Swadisthana slightly below the navel; 3) solar plexus chakra, or Manipura in the solar plexus area; 4) heart chakra, or Anahata in the heart area; 5) throat chakra, or Vishuddha in the throat; 6) forehead chakra, third eye, or Ajna in the forehead, between and slightly above the eyebrows; 7) crown chakra, or Sahasrara top at the top of the head. Binnie A. Dansby, however, considers an eight chakra so important that she includes it with the traditional major seven. This chakra is situated between the solar plexus and the heart chakras, and is associated with being in choice in one's life. Binnie associates specific, archetypal affirmations with each chakra. See also Binnie's lecture on creator consciousness, which is a tour of the chakras.

Deepening:
A form of guided meditation where you pay attention to keeping the breath connected. The Process called For Giving is one such process.

Feeling and Thinking:
In SOURCE Process and Breathwork a very clear, and somewhat unusual distinction is made between feeling and thinking. Feeling is defined as the sensations that register in the body, like warm, cold, pressure etc. Defined in this way, you can't feel sad - sadness is a thought that you have somehow learned to automatically associate with certain sensations in your body. As you learn to make this distinction, the automatic coupling between the sensation (feeling) and the experience of sadness is overcome - you no longer feel sad when you have the same sensations in your body that used to make you sad.

The process "For Giving":
A powerful deepening developed by Binnie A. Dansby, where you visualize first your mother, and with the eye of your wisdom, look for what she needs, in the situation she appears to you. You then give her that, and see her have it. The same procedure is repeated for your father, and yourself.

Going unconscious:
Losing conscious awareness during a breathwork session, drifting off into a dreamlike state where the breath is rather light. It is completely harmless, and the therapist will normally invite the client to simply connect his breath again.

Integration:
The experience where you let go of a life diminishing thought, which makes space for embracing the corresponding positive thought form, or affirmation. A state of peace reached by the end of a SOURCE Breath session.

To move through activated feelingsfeelings:
To stay with the connected breathing while feeling all the feelings/sensations in your body. The feelings and sensations then pass - you are through them, and you have an experience of energy flowing and moving easily in your body. Sometimes called a breath release.

Rebirthing/Breathwork:
Rebirthing/Breathwork is a powerful psycho-spiritual process, based on the philosophy that thought is creative. Change occurs through the simple, yet profound connected breathing technique and life-enhancing thoughts and affirmations. This releases old, negative thought patterns and so frees you to develop new ways of living, loving and connecting.

Breathwork method
SOURCE Process and Breathwork can be done in a variety of ways. In the most common set up, is a so-called dry session, the client is lying down on his back with eyes closed, while the therapist is sitting next to him, supporting him. SOURCE Warm Water Breathwork, the client is typically held and supported by a small group of people in a tub, with water about 38 C.(Photos of sessions.; detailed description.)

Breath therapist:
The person giving a breath session. The SOURCE Process and Breathwork Training is an international four-year program to educate breath therapists.

Client:
The person receiving a breath session.

Reincarnation:
The belief that we are born into physical life many times, dressed in different bodies and personalities, with the purpose of gradually developing all aspects of the human potential.

Support:
In SOURCE Process and Breathwork it is acknowledged that you don't go into the very intense feelings associated with your birth, or other major trauma, unless you know that you are safe. Therefore, a very important role of the SOURCE Process and Breathwork Therapist is to facilitate the experience of safety and support for the client, so that old feelings may come up and be healed. This presupposes that the therapist is himself safe with intense feelings.

Thought is creative:
In SOURCE Process and Breathwork you are presented with the idea that thought is creative, that anything that exists now in a tangible form, existed earlier as a thought. That the thoughts you have entertained up till now have created the life experience you have right now, and that by choosing different thoughts you will be able to create other, more enjoyable, life experiences.
